Rock Island Open Door Program
Serving Families in Crisis
Open Door Concept:
The Open Door pilot was designed to provide services to customers facing barriers that prohibit them from accessing available services such as medication, employment, transportation, and other services due to an inadequate or limited support system. The unique component of Open Door is that as soon as the customer requests assistance, service will be provided. Open Door staff provide direct assistance and link the customer to the appropriate DHS Division of community service provider in a timely and streamlined manner. When immediate intervention is not required, Open Door may serve as a referral source and/or assist the customer in navigating the service delivery system. In the recent months, due to the poor conditions in the economy, the number of individuals seeking Open Door assistance has steadily increased.
Open Door Program Objectives:
Serve customers who are in crisis.
Address the needs of individuals through case management, direct placement or referrals.
Connect individuals to the appropriate service provider to meet their particular needs to partner with community providers in making referrals for appropriate services, including health, immediate food assistance, clothing, mental health, substance abuse, and urgent care services.
Open Door Rock Island:
The Rock Island Open Door is a partnership between the Illinois Department of Human Services (DHS) and Skip-a-Long Child Development Services. Rock Island Open Door staff will work closely with DHS and community agencies in the Rock Island metropolitan area to provide immediate and intensive case management for Skip-a-Long families facing crisis, and help identify solutions as quickly as possible.
The Rock Island Open Door will provide emergency assistance to families who have children or relatives enrolled in one of the three Skip-a-Long facilities (a staggered referral process will eventually result in referrals being received from the entire community). Open Door customers in crisis situations receive direct assistance, case management, and referrals as needed.
